About me

My name is Lorraine Lloyd and I started writing stories and rhymes from a young age. Reading books with my own children was always a special part of our daily routine and after working with students from primary to college age, I decided to start writing my own. Yes I Can is my first book, ‘Don’t Say That Kelly!’ is my 2nd book and coming next is ‘A Heart So Full’ and ‘Millionaire Millie’.
Yes I Can is about Henry Betts, a boy who comes from a town where everyone is identical. He moves house and starts a new school but is bewildered when he meets students who are different to him in lots of ways. The children are proud of their differences and show Henry that you should embrace what makes you unique.
Originally from Liverpool, I worked in several fields before studying a BSc in combined Sociology and Psychology and finding my passion in working with young people. Their honesty, curiosity and humour are a constant inspiration to me and I hope they can relate to my stories and find joy in reading.
What is your favourite thing about writing?
I love the freedom you have when writing stories to be funny, ridiculous, silly. To be able to create literally anything opens up so many possibilities. You can create people, lives, situations either from imagination, memory or a mix of the two. I've also always particularly loved rhyming so I like my books to rhyme because I remember how much I enjoyed reading rhyming books to my children when they were small.
If you could say one thing about literature, what would it be?
Literature should be a priority in every home. It is bonding time with our children, it unleashes imagination, opens new worlds, explores possibilities. Reading can transport us, educate us, heal us, inspire us. A love of books should be nurtured in children, reading improves the English capability of students and brings escapism, excitement and curiosity.
